What is Shaq’s Fishing Hacks?

You’ve landed on this page and your wondering isn’t “Shaq” a basketball player from the 90’s? The answer to that question is yes he is. I am not that Shaq. I am just regular guy Shaq who loves to fish, and share that love with people around me.

So what is “Shaq’s Fishing Hacks”? A place in the fishing community, where you can find tricks, tips, info and even some gear to catch more fish. Our Goal at Shaq’s Hacks is to grow the fishing community. We do that by making fishing more accessible to those who find the influx of information about fishing overwhelming. Our mission is to simplify, organize that information, break it down and make it useable. If you don’t know the difference between a Texas rig or a Crank bait, a baitcaster vs a closed-faced, your our kind of person.

Why I write?

I whole heartily believe fishing is a hobby everyone should take up. The joy that comes from hooking up with a monster of a fish, or watching a child catch their first little bluegill, there is nothing quite like that experience. However, also understand that diving in to this world of fishing can be overwhelming at first. There’s such a variety of lures and tackle and reels, weights and hooks, soft plastics and crankbaits. Without a guide, its understandable one might just give up shortly into it

Shaq’s Hacks is my chance to share the knowledge I have gained, from years of fishing with you. If even one person decides to take up fishing and is able to hand it down to someone else, this entire blog is worth it to me. I write not only to pour wisdom and knowledge with you, but also in hopes you’ll pour into the next generation.

I write for the Dad that’s looking for a new way to bond with his kids, for the wife looking to connect with her husband, and for the grandchild looking to connect with grandpa or grandma again. Fishing is truly a hobby that can bridge generational gaps. I write to help people bridge those gaps.

About Shaq

The picture at the top of this page is a picture of me. My wife and I were on a 3 day backpacking trip, hiking through the brush, sleeping in a tent, carrying in everything we needed to survive. And if you look closely in that picture you’ll see i brought my fishing pole. Fishing is what I do, in some ways fishing is who I am.

I didn’t grow up fishing, I wasn’t taught by my father, or grandpa. I was exposed to fishing by a friend who reached out while i was going through a tough time in life. A peer, someone my age. At a time in my life were I struggled with depression and loneliness. A friend reached out and asked “Hey man, you wanna go fishing?”

After a few hours of talking and fishing, I forgot about all the problems that were around me and just fished. Thats the power fishing can have, its so much more than a sport. As you’ll soon find out.

See ya out there
